Me.Style Lounge launched recently at Claremont Quarter and we were delighted to work on their new website and print collateral.

The new salon concept store is a one-stop glamour shop. You can use their GHD's or iPad's while you wait for your hair or beauty service.

Slick Design created the Rosalie Primary School 'Favourites' Cookbook just in time for this year's school fete this Saturday 5th November!

We were thrilled to put together a fantastic cookbook of nearly 200 pages of favourite recipes by all the parents & carers and beautiful illustrations provided by the students.

The Cottesloe Beach Pool

The Cottesloe Beach Pool is a relatively new community initiative established by the Cottesloe Beach Pool Committee (CBPC) to drive the proposal for a sea water swimming pool to be built at Cottesloe Beach.

What makes a good business logo?

Here are just a few points (in no particular order) on what we think makes up a good logo…

It should look good
Well this is obvious, nobody wants to have a poor looking logo as one of the first things people see and if it doesn't look good the design will have to change at some point.

It should create a positive, powerful first impression
This is an important factor in a good logo, as first impressions really do count and could be the difference between a client choosing your company or another.

It should be simple
Keep it simple, stupid. Simple logos are often the best logos, easily recognisable, reproducible and scalable. Remember less is sometimes more.

It should be memorable
Following on from the previous point, a simple logo is more likely to also be a memorable one. If you can not remember a logo then chances are you might not remember the company.

It should look good in black and white
A logo needs to work well in black and white / grey-scale, as this is often how it gets reproduced, and it needs to remain recognisable. If there isn't a black and white version of the logo then there is the risk of it becoming distorted as it gets copied and passed around.

It should be scalable
It is great when your logo is used on a really big scale so everyone can see it but more often than not logos are used less than an inch in size. At a small scale the logo should be just as clear as a large reproduction, which is why simpler is often better. A good logo should be recognised from a distance.

It should be relevant to your industry
A logo design should be relevant to the industry that it represents. For example, it is no good having a flower in the logo to represent an industrial manufacturers (unless they deal with garden manufacture)

Done well a logo will help build the brand and also give a more professional look to any business.

You might hear the terms static and dynamic websites and wonder what the difference is? Surely a website is just a website. Well the main difference is that one is written in HTML only and there is no database that it draws on. The only way to edit a static site would be to go into each page and edit the HTML manually. Not something most people would like to approach as it means learning how to code, and also throws up the possibility that something might go wrong. Sure a static site is a great way to have information on the web for when people search for your company or a particular service, but will it keep users coming back to your site when the content is over a year old? Probably not.

A dynamic site is created with more complex code and can do a lot more. For example, a content management system will allow you to log in to an admin panel and change various parts of the site, such as adding new information about products or changing a price list. The ability to do this comes as each page is constructed based on information in a database, and that information can be changed by an easy to understand interface.

Dynamic sites can reduce ongoing maintenance costs if you don't want to change things yourself with a webpage editor or with HTML. They also allow you to change the content of the site, without changing the design, so there is no risk of accidentally breaking the site. Other special features can be built in, which allow you to store all your contacts, newsletter signups, and emails sent via the website, etc, in one easily accessible place. Fantastic if you misplaced a particular customers details.

The initial stages focus on the content you would like your website to show, with a visual style being uniquely designed and created. Only once you are happy will we move on to creating the code that make the website pages work. On completion we can set up your hosting package, so the website can go live straight away and if you have a dynamic website then we will provide you with a manual so you can edit the content as and when you please.

Like a carpenter never builds his own home, we hadn’t got around to getting a new website off the ground. So FINALLY we decided to set aside the time to make it happen. We are delighted with the result.

The main improvements have been a better showcase of our work and a news feed where you can keep up with all the latest at Slick Design.

Thanks to Grafik, our fantastic web wizs, who have worked tirelessly with our demands and weird and wonderful requests to help make this a reality for us.
